Making my own website!

by Gabriel Cohen 10/3/25

Here is a link to my new personal website! I have always wanted to make my own website and design a personal webpage online. I made an “about me” page and incorporated a number of different text-based and visual elements. As someone who has never had any experience coding or working in technology before, I found that WordPress made designing a website very easy and intuitive. Once I started to understand the process of designing the web page it started to become quite intuitive and understandable.

My favorite part of the website process was designing the layout and putting the pieces together of my website. I wanted the website to include some of the most important parts of who I am when designing the “about me” function of my website. I looked at a few different color palettes and themes before selecting the one that I evantually used. I wanted to find a theme that represented me and my personal style. I split the website into distinct sections that each featured different parts of my identity.

First, I inserted two photos of me with my friends and a brief “Who am I?” paragraph that introduced who I am. I then used the pre-installed link function to include hyperlinks to my different social media platforms. Since my website later includes references to films and music that I enjoy I included links to my Youtube channel where I have posted short films, my Letterboxd account where I review movies, and my Apple Music where people can view my playlists.

I then included a section called “My Story,” where I have a brief timeline of my life. I have lived in a number of different countries and cities and I wrote a brief introduction to who I am. The story is pretty basic for now, but I plan on adding more over time.

Next, I wanted to play around with including different images and text in a stylistic and symmetrical manner, and I included a number of my ‘favorite things,’ including my favorite pieces of art. The website was very easy to design as I put the images and descriptions side-by-side.

Lastly, I ended by posting a number of my favorite photos from throughout my life. These included photos with my friends, brother, my pet dog and some concerts that I have attended. I wanted viewers to get a strong sense of who I am.

I want to keep updating the website and eventually turn it into a personal project. As someone who listens to a lot of music, I want to create a website in which I can recommend different albums. I would love to have different sections that each represent different albums that I love that are pushed to website’s viewers each day.

Being able to host my own website is very exciting but it takes a lot more work than just using a service to design a website for me. Similarly, I do not have as much expertise as people who could be paid to design a website for me. That being said, as someone who doesn’t require a personal website, I am more than happy to have the opportunity to design my own website and learn as I do so!

  1. Gabe, I really enjoyed exploring your website. I think you did a great job showcasing your personality and going in-depth about your background and experiences. I thought adding some of your favorite photos and a link to your Letterboxd was a great individualized touch, and I’m excited to see where you take your website!
