I started my own website for the first time today, and I am honestly not quite sure what to do with it. I can see how it can be used as a place to host my creative ideas, but I feel very unsure as to what those ideas may entail. For now, I wrote about myself, placed a couple images, one of myself, another of a tapestry that was at the museum I interned at over the summer. For now, I think this platform can be used as a means of experimenting with bringing my interests over to the digital world, compiled in one space, rather than all over the place.
Although I think blogging perhaps is a basic use of a WordPress site, I am almost tempted to do so, as I would like to share more about my experiences working in two different countries, and exploring some cultural differences and similarities. I think this could be relevant to some of the goals of the course, as I particularly would like to find a way to work within the art/museum sphere, but remain adaptable to digital changes. Often, museums and artistic spaces are described as stuffy and unapproachable, but by having honest conversations about the every-day experiences within these sectors, I feel like I could aid in digitizing the artistic world.
For me, the biggest upside of hosting my own website is that it can be a place for me to fully put whatever I want out there, without having to go through a regulatory process. It makes it easy to bring my ideas to the public sphere, though perhaps that can be dangerous as well. For me, I am very well versed with social media platforms, as well as the risks that they pose, particularly pertaining to digital footprint. In this case, anything that I put on my hosted site is completely under my name, and that inherently feels more intimidating to me.
