Making my own website!

Welcome to my page! Click to take a look! https://har.sites.carleton.edu/?page_id=6

This is my first time making a website (didn’t even thought about it before), and it’s so much more challenging than I thought but also way more fun and rewarding. The hardest part was getting everything ready and the whole set up process. It felt overwhelming because it’s not just clicking the “sign up” button like what you do for a social media. But once I started to understand how it works it’s so much clearer.

Designing the website was definitely my favorite part. With the built in appearance function in WordPress, I played around the color palette, theme, and layouts, trying to figure out what felt most “like me”. I want it to look like a portfolio but also fun so it doesn’t feel stiff. Adding the “About Me” page was very satisfying, it just makes the website more alive.

Now that my website is running, I see it as a space where I can use to express myself. I’m still thinking how I should use it though, maybe it’ll stay a personal blog so I can share my thoughts. The way I have control on how to use it is also exciting because of the possibility of it. I get to decide how my site looks, what stays up and how it is organized.

Besides that, I think it is also possible that I use this space to share my projects and anything academic. Connecting this back to what we talked about in class last week, as a more humanities focused student, the knowledge of website making is also giving me a chance to access a space to share and connect to people in related fields. Overall, this website feels like a small but meaningful step towards building a space that tells people who am I and what I do.
