Exploring WordPress gave me a clear sense of both its flexibility and practical applications as a website-building platform. The range of themes and block templates provides structured frameworks that can be customized to suit different purposes and personal style. I found the interface intuitive, allowing easy adjustments to blocks, links, layouts, and styling. The smooth transition between the backend dashboard, frontend editor, and preview mode made it simple to test and refine changes in real time. From the backend dashboard, I could manage content such as posts, pages, and comments, as well as website themes, plugins, and other settings. I found it especially useful to have a separate view for managing settings. I built a simple website with a Home page and an About page, experimenting with different tools and layouts to apply what I learned. Another strength is the platform’s support for third-party integrations, such as linking to GitHub or embedding interactive content like the Fusion 360 model we explored earlier. Through this experience, I found WordPress to be an adaptable tool that can support both professional development and creative expression by offering tools to organize and present content in a clear and engaging way.
Considering this, the choice between hosting a personal website and using social media depends largely on the intended purpose. For casual activities like journaling or sharing daily experiences, platforms like Instagram or Pinterest are convenient. Their mobile accessibility, streamlined posting, and built-in audiences make content easy to share and discover. However, social media provides limited control over how content is presented and is constrained by design formats and platform rules. In contrast, a self-hosted website allows full control over design and content, enabling tailored presentations of projects, portfolios, or writing that social media cannot fully support. While maintaining a website requires additional effort, including costs and security management, personal domains convey credibility and establish an independent professional presence. In practice, combining both approaches—using a website for professionalism and social media for broader visibility—would provide the effective balance.
