Reynolds Team Charter

By Aiden, Harrah, Hope, Kate, May, and Megan!

Shared Values and Goals:

We collectively value clear communication and respect for the topic matter at hand. We also want to ensure that the work is distributed equitably and in a manner that plays to individual comforts and strengths. We value support and clear advocacy – which stretches to encompass both individual and collective projects.

Expectations:

We expect communication regarding individual availability, and we expect people to follow through on the responsibilities we have agreed to complete for the project. We also look to respect the work of our peers and will provide constructive feedback. We will also work to be efficient in our own work in order to not waste the time of ours peers.

Communication:

Text messages work best for quick communication. For more in-depth conversations, we can organize meetings in order to get nuanced and accurate understandings of each project step. We will store all our project information within one shared Google Drive so the documents we are using can be accessed outside of the final WordPress website.

Disagreement:

We do not foresee much disagreement, however, if it comes up, we will make sure to express respectfully and clearly. If there is a conflict, we will make it known that a problem is occurring and work together to solve it as a group before it has a chance to fester. We will not judge each other’s qualms.

Responsibilities:

We have attempted to divide responsibilities in a way that plays to each of our strengths and personal interests in the project. Generally, here is a template of how we expect to split up the project components. We will individually call meetings if needed by our subgroups.

ArcGIS Mapping (Storymaps) – Megan, Kate

  • Create a map of her journey (reference aiden’s 204 project)
    • Connect the path as a slideshow
  • Add popups for each stop (include date, quote, what she did there, other relevant information, etc)
  • Include images of the place at that time (ex Beijing 1904)

WordPress Design Notes – Aiden, Harrah

  • Start with the New York Times article, then as the user scrolls they enter the site.
  •  Ideally, there is a white background and stuff like “Text Analysis” and “Spatial Analysis” in a top bar.
  • It would be cool to have the letters in a similar format to the WCMA site, so able to be manipulated a little bit/organized
  • When you click on a letter, the letter gets larger, and there is a transcription of the letter.
  • Maybe something like genius lyric annotation for highlighted parts – these could be interesting or contested parts of the letters that we want to highlight.

Word Analysis and Voyant – Hope, May

  • Go through each letter’s transcription and edit the grammar and punctuation to be comprehensible.
  • Note any phrases or words that are unclear or vague.
  • Submit individual letters, and all of them at once, to Voyant and run a couple analyses on the changes of her word choice over time.
  • Assist the WordPress team in highlighting and formatting the transcripts and letters.

  1. This project is also very cool! I like how you guys are choosing to focus on a very specific topic. It also seems smart to have two people working on each component of the project so you have multiple people collaborating if you run into a problem. You guys seem to work well together and I’m excited to see what the final project looks like!
