My WordPress Site Setup Experience

Setup Process

Setting up my WordPress site was definitely a learning process. At first, I found the tools to be pretty confusing, especially when it came to arranging the blocks. I’d move one thing and suddenly the whole layout would completely shift, which got frustrating very quickly. But after spending some time experimenting, I started to get a better sense of how everything worked.

I deleted all the default template content and built the site (mostly) from scratch. I added a sunset photo I took as the background which I thought was a nice touch that added warmth and personality to the page. I also used CSS to make the header transparent, which helped the design feel softer and blend better with the color palette I wanted for the site.

Reflection

Going forward, I could see myself possibly using this site as a personal portfolio for my technical projects and creative work. It could be a place to share things I build and show how my skills evolve over time.

Hosting your own website comes with a lot of benefits, but also a few tradeoffs. The biggest advantage is the amount of control and creative freedom you have. You can design every part of the site exactly how you want it, experiment with new features, and make changes without being limited. It also feels more personal and professional.

At the same time, managing your own site takes more effort and technical skill. You have to think about things like updates, plugins, and security, and you have to troubleshoot issues yourself. It’s definitely less convenient than posting on social media, but it’s also more meaningful because you get to decide exactly how you present yourself.

  1. Daya! I really enjoy how you embedded a google map link on your “about me” page. I had not considered doing this. I also completely agree that it was initially confusing to figure out how each component of the WordPress site worked together.

  2. Hi Daya! I really enjoyed looking through your site and all of its features. I especially enjoyed the humor aspect that you implemented. Some jokes like “God willing, even employed were a breath of fresh air in contrast to the professional tone most people took with their websites. Great work!

  3. Hi Daya! I checked out your site and it looks fantastic so far! The layout is clean, the navigation is intuitive, and your personality shines through. Thank you for sharing — it’s inspiring to see how you brought your vision to life. Great job!
