For my project, I created a Timeline demonstrating the evolution of Yoruba wooden art. The Yoruba are a tribe that are found today in Nigeria, and have several different festivals and rituals that include the use of wooden art. This project was demanding and rewarding, and I am happy with the result. You can find my work here!

The timeline component is really well done, but even more than that I really appreciate your choice to narrow down the data set to intentionally move away from persistent generalizations that depict African cultures as a monolith. Your project is a great example of how digital humanities can complement technical fields as this insight might be ignored by a more typical data scientist that is considering the data before the people behind it.

I love how you focused on a specific cultural thread within a massive dataset. It makes the project feel purposeful and respectful of the art’s individuality. The site itself looks polished, and the way you explain the challenges of dating and labeling the works adds a nice thoughtful layer.
