Learning to 3D Model: Week One Lab

I chose to 3D model a lego brick stud because I’ve always loved to build Legos since I was a kid and figured this would be the perfect assignment for me to practice making something I enjoy. I found it particularly difficult to make the model hollow and add a stud that extended outward the way I wanted to because I don’t have a mouse so my computer was super finicky. The compromises I had to make were definitely inaccurate to the original material, and there were points where I had to eyeball what I thought looked correct.

Fusion and 3D modeling are great opportunities for students to have a more “hands-on” learning experience, make something they care about, and see various perspectives from people. I would advise other students using Fusion to watch videos on YouTube because there is a lot of knowledge out there and tips that will make their 3D modeling experience easier. Here’s how you can view my project!

  1. When I looked at this object, I immediately recognized is as the tiny Lego brick. I don’t use Legos at all, but certain shapes are pretty exclusive to a particular thing, there isn’t a lot else that looks like this. For objects that are really tiny, the compromises can’t be easily notice unless you zoom in. I think some of it may have to do with my unfamiliarity with Legos. I imagine compromises could be suitable depending on the audience of the 3D model, as well as how well you can mask it. Could be great if a business is trying to save money on a budget. Just a thought.
