Building Web Development Fundamentals

<pre> Reflection/Debate: I think humanities students should learn to code but they shouldn’t have to learn to code. Kirschenbaum describes coding, especially in the humanities, as “a kind of world-making, requiring one to specify the behaviors of an object or a system from the ground up.” I agree. The ability to control how you present information is incredibly important, especially as technology continues to evolve quickly. Even without mastering coding, having a basic understanding of it is a valuable skill. Coming in with <b> absolutely zero </b> prior coding experience, I’ve already found that the beginner lessons (see below) have helped me connect with other disciplines and given me more autonomy in creating my own projects.

HTML (beginner): I put in a little photo of what I tinkered with. I acutally had a lot more fun than I thought I would and most of it made sense to me. I definitely get the basics (text elements, images, and other little tricks). I’m not sure why the image isn’t loading but maybe that’s just Jsbin. Definitely an overall positive experience.

CSS (beginner): This one was a little longer to get the hang of but it started getting better. I made it look weird so I could see where my edits were happening. It was also just fun to make.
