Team Charter: Carletonian Through Time

Group Members

Warren, Daya, Emilia, Luha, Cam

Shared Values and Goals

Generally, we are all interested in delving further into digital humanities and exploring the process of text analysis on a large scale. We are curious about the change over time in the Carletonian and how these changes reflect world events and trends. We want to better understand the history of Carleton’s community to understand our current community better.

Expectations of Each Other

As a group, we will above all that we are respectful of each other. This includes being respectful of each other’s time during meetings (i.e. staying on topic, not wasting time), and being respectful of the word that we have accomplished individually. Additionally, we expect that we will complete our assigned tasks on time and to the best of our abilities. Finally, it is also important that we all communicate with each other – more communication is always better than less communication. This includes notifying our group members if a step of the process is taking longer than expected, or if we want to schedule a meeting to go over our progress so far. Through these expectations we expect that our group will be able to be successful.

Communication

We will make sure to communicate with each other often and effectively throughout our final project process. We plan to achieve this by communicating in a text group chat, holding weekly in-person meetings, and checking in with each other and working together during each class period.

Handling Disagreement

We plan to handle disagreements with clear communication and mutual respect. We will discuss any issues that arise early and talk through them as a group, ensuring that every group member has a voice in the project outcome, hearing out any dissenting opinions, and compromising where necessary.

Dividing Work

We will share responsibility for calling meetings, downloading PDFs, and converting PDFs into .txt files. We will all be responsible for contributing substantially to the final product. Emilia and Luha will be responsible for the timeline, Daya will be responsible for the graphs, Warren will be responsible for the map, Cam will be responsible for the WordPress site and write up, and we will all be responsible for the final slides presentation. However, we will all be responsible for helping each other with these portions if/when needed.

  1. This project seems really interesting! I’m excited to see what the final result looks like. I really like how your first value is respect. That is what our group said, too. I think that respect is key and will also tie into how your group (and others) go about communication, handling disagreement, and divide work.
